Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav shared his vision for the upliftment of the Bahujan Samaj in India on Monday as he unveiled the statue of Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshi Ram in Rae Bareli. “SP is not here to dent the Bahujan Samaj but to accompany them in their fight for social justice”, said the former UP Chief Minister. Akhilesh Yadav recalled how Kanshi Ram and Mulayam Singh Yadav came together in 1991 and how the Samajwadi Party and its supporters understood the importance of Bahujan Samaj and backed Kanshi Ram when he contested the elections from Etawah. Their unified mission is to fight for social justice and a vision that was set forth by Kanshi Ram, Ram Manohar Lohia and BR Ambedkar.
Taking a jibe on current BSP supremo Mayawati, former BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya said she did not align with the ideologies of her predecessors. The leader further added that this is the primary reason why the BSP only manages to send one MLA to the UP Assembly and most of her leaders are sharing the stage with Akhilesh Yadav.
The mention of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) needs no introduction as the political outfit has significantly been at the forefront in demanding social justice and equal rights for the deprived sections in India. Founded by Kanshi Ram, along with the help of Mayawati, this regional party now exists among the plethora of regional parties in India. BSP has not only had initial success in Uttar Pradesh but it has also been instrumental in creating some other regional parties such as Bahujan Vikas Aaghadi and Jharkhand Mukti and Morcha. The support and contribution of BSP in safeguarding the interest of those sections of society that have been historically marginalized cannot be neglected.
