Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has urged against “pausing” the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), claiming it will not solve the challenges posed by the technology in a recent interview with Reuters. This marks his first public comment on the matter since an open letter sparked a debate in the tech world about the future of the technology.

Gates’ view is reflected in the belief that exploring the potential of AI is essential to making the technology workable and beneficial for society. He stressed the need to find approaches that enable people to explore the potential of AI while being mindful of the potential ethical and civil implications of its advancement. Furthermore, he noted that AI’s potential is undeniable given its current ability to help with sorting through vast amounts of medical data to recognize signs in medical records which might lead to a new medical breakthrough.
