Congress ticket aspirant HM Nandakumar, who is a KPPC member and has been serving the society for a long time, has been denied the ticket from Sullia constituency, which is reserved for SC category. Supporters and well-wishers of Nandakumar, however, have convenied a meeting at Ninthikal in Sullia to demand the ticket. The leader has been promised to be fielded as an independent candidate if the Congress does not issue him a B Form to contest from Sullia.
Despite Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC) president K Harish Kumar issuing a warning of disciplinary action against those involved in the dissidence meeting, supporters stayed firm that Nandakumar should contest the polls as an independent candidate and strive to ensure an acceptable way to form the government in Karnataka.
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) should give priority to efficient and honest leaders in the Congress to contest polls, said Sullia Block Congress vice president K Gokuldas. Praveen Kumar Kedenjiguthu, another leader, mentioned BJP’s winning streak in Sullia only due to the internal politics in the Congress.
Nandakumar Abhimani Balaga convener and former president of Kadaba Block Congress Committee Balakrishna Balleri addressed the gathering and requested the KPCC to issue the B Form to Nandakumar to contest from Sullia within a week.
Mangaluru has always been known for its unique political climate and this revelation further cements it as an important constituency for its strategic importance. People are betting on the well-known Congress leader Nandakumar to make a good showing if he makes the jump to run as an independent candidate from Sullia.
