The Congress leaders Goni Malathesh and Nagaraj Gowda have declared their commitment to defeat the dynasty politics of former CM BS Yediyurappa in Shikaripura constituency, Karnataka. This is due to his announcement of retirement from electoral politics.
Congress in Shikaripura is divided between Goni Malathesh, who contested the last assembly polls, and Nagaraj Gowda, uncle of HS Shantaveerappa Gowda, who lost to Yediyurappa in 2013 by less than 10,000 votes margin. This time, Nagaraj’s followers are lobbying for Sadar Lingayat candidate, as the community has a majority of 40, 000 voters in the segment. This comes with Yediyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra possibly contesting from Shikaripura and Yediyurappa facing Banjara community’s anger over internal reservations.
Malathesh and Nagaraj Gowda have shown no enmity, as they have declared to support whoever is given the ticket from Congress. Meanwhile, a total of ten aspirants have applied for the ticket, which will be issued by Congress.
