CPS Technologies Corporation (CPSH) has been awarded a Phase I Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract from the U.S. Army to develop lightweight and reconfigurable UH-60 flooring. The company has designed and fabricated a Ballistic Armor Protection System (BAPS) using their proprietary HybridTech Armor® Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) technology. This MMC and monolithic ceramic tiles combination ensures robust ballistic and structural performance while reducing weight in comparison with other metallic armor systems.

The Director of Product Development at CPS, Dr. Stephen Kachur, spoke about the project with enthusiasm stating that their team is “eager to begin development efforts in support of this program.” Dr. Kachur also expressed confidence that their advanced material solutions combined with QNA systems integration would result in a product meeting the objectives of the program, while reflecting the Army’s modernization efforts.

Michael McCormack, CPS President and CEO, commented on the scale of their achievements over the past year saying he is “pleased with our team’s ability to identify advanced material solutions in support of the Department of Defense.” Furthermore, Mr. McCormack stressed that the investments CPS has made in top engineering talent and sophisticated product development have been hugely successful and beneficial.

The U.S. Army’s SBIR program affords small businesses the opportunity to compete with larger corporations to resolve issues facing the Department of Defense, and other Government agencies. The total funding for the initial stage of the project is $250,000 and the development of the project will take place in a period of six months.

Established in 2014, CPS Technologies is a leader in the production of energy management components that enhance the process of electrification. Their products and intellectual property concentrate on electric trains, subway cars, wind turbines, hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, the smart electric grid, 5G infrastructure, and other solutions for the modern marketplace. Additionally, the company’s armor products are recognized for their exceptional ballistic protection and environmental durability. CPS is committed to innovation and strives to offer the best customer solutions for the future.
