Tragedy struck early Monday morning in Daytona Beach as a 57-year-old female pedestrian was fatally struck by a sport utility vehicle on U.S. 92, also known as International Speedway Boulevard. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the driver of the Nissan Pathfinder, a 45-year-old woman from DeLand, remained at the scene of the crash and was not injured.
The investigation into this accident is ongoing at this time and should remind us all of the need to be vigilant when it comes to traffic safety. As we mourn the loss of a life taken too soon, we must also strive to prevent these tragedies in the future.
The Florida Highway Patrol is an agency dedicated to ensuring public safety on Florida roadways. Established in 1939, the FHP works to enforce traffic laws, prepare and conduct public safety education and awareness campaigns, and provide emergency and other public safety services. It is through their tireless work that we can drive on the roads knowing that our safety is the top priority.
The female pedestrian who was killed in this incident has not yet been named. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time. We should all strive to keep her memory alive by being reminded of the importance of adhering to traffic safety laws, and remember the tragic costs of not doing so.
