
Tragedy struck Vernon Township, Pennsylvania on Saturday when a woman driving through the area was fatally injured due to a tree limb falling onto her vehicle. Diane Fritz, a 61-year-old from Conneaut Lake, was driving along the North Watson Run Road in Vernon Township when a large tree limb suddenly crashed into the left side of her car’s roof. Despite being rushed to UPMC Hamot hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania after the accident, Ms. Fritz could not be saved and was pronounced dead by Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook who ruled the cause of death to be accidental blunt force trauma.
The Vernon Township Police Department has started an investigation in an effort to determine what happened leading up to the fatal accident. Throughout the investigation, they are working with local officials such as the Erie County Coroner’s office, as well as private companies including the UPMC Hamot medical center.
