Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel is hopeful that fly-half Sam Costelow will be fit for the upcoming Challenge Cup quarter-final against Clermont Auvergne in Llanelli. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season culminating with his first Wales cap against New Zealand last November. Peel believes that he is making progress in his recovery but will have to wait and see.

The French Top 14 opponents Clermont Auvergne are no strangers to Scarlets having met four times in Llanelli with the last encounter being a 33-26 win for Clermont Auvergne at Bristol. This will be the second French opposition Scarlets have come up against this season with the competition being credited for kickstarting their season. Prior to Europe, Scarlets had lost seven of nine United Rugby Championship fixtures, yet managed five league wins since then including two Welsh derbies.

Scarlets have made strides in recruitment for next season and are on the verge of announcing their signings. Ioan Lloyd’s contract with Bristol Bears will expire this summer and Peel has openly expressed his interest with the 21-year-old Wales international.

The match will be covered by BBC Radio Wales FM/DAB in south west Wales, the BBC Sport website, and app. This will provide devoted fans of Scarlets the opportunity to follow the team’s progress with the hopes that Costelow will be fit enough to fulfill Peel’s expectations.
