Originating from Germany more than 300 years ago and bred to hunt badgers, Doxies are much loved for their unique appearance and loyal, friendly personalities. Firstly, Dachshunds come in two sizes – standard and miniature. Standard are usually heavier with a weight range of 16-32 pounds, while miniature weigh just 11-16 pounds. The breed also has three coat types – smooth, wirehaired and longhaired.

What’s more, these funny-looking pups have a very distinctive bark and howl which has made them popular with celebrities like Adele, and David Hasselhoff.

Lesser known, however, is that Dachshunds can be trained and used as sniffer dogs to locate items like drugs and explosives, or even a cadaver!
