Back in 2021, O’Leary decided to take a chance on his dreams and walked on to Michigan Football. Now, after having an impressive performance in the spring game, fans have taken notice of the redshirt sophomore wide receiver.
O’Leary’s path to The Big House is not an unfamiliar story for the family. His father was his high school coach and his father played quarterback in college. O’Leary showed off his talents and proved his football chops when he had a game-high six catches for 126 yards and the game-winning two-point conversion in the spring game.
Last season, O’Leary appeared in six games and caught one pass for four yards, so the anticipation was high to see how he would perform this year. With the losses of Ronnie Bell to the NFL and Andrel Anthony who transferred away from the program, could O’Leary be the surprise everyone has been predicting?
His teammates have been extolling his potential in the second half with the help of J.J. McCarthy, who has great confidence in the crisp route runner, and his close friend Davis Warren. O’Leary reflected in a post-game interview that he felt it was great to get the chance to show what he could do in The Big House and that he’s just been waiting for his shot.
O’Leary was recently put on scholarship, so it could be the perfect opportunity for him to finally show what he’s capable of. And it looks like the team has faith in O’Leary as he moves into the 2021-22 season.
