Sourav Ganguly, Director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals, expressed his confidence in the team’s bowling unit ahead of their much-anticipated clash against Gujarat Titans at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. The Capitals haven’t played on home turf since four years ago and will be hoping to bring their A-game amidst the High Voltage match. Ganguly said, “Anrich Nortje has joined us but we have not decided the lineup yet. Khaleel and Mukesh performed excellently against Lucknow Super Giants. There was no doubt in terms of Sakariya’s bowling prowess as he put up a decent show in the first two overs but as always, high scores follow up in T20 matches – we have good bowlers and we can surely put up a strong contest against Gujarat.”
When asked if Axar Patel, the vice-captain of the Delhi Capitals, will get a spot in the higher order during the next match, Ganguly responded in affirmative saying, “We do plan on boosting Axar’s batting rankings. The runs he made against Australia in the Test series were remarkable and his talent does deserve recognition. It is likely that he will be promoted to a higher order for the game against Gujarat.”
It is also worth mentioning that Mark Wood from Lucknow Super Giants made some fiercely competitive bowling during the last match on which Ganguly shed some light as well, “Our batsmen were nowhere near their best during the last game. But we must bear in mind that sometimes, even the best can have their good and bad days on the field. Kudos to Wood for his bowling performance, he was great.”
The match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans will kick off at 7.30 pm, on Tuesday and it will be an incredibly exciting one. The Capitals are coached by Ricky Ponting and captained by David Warner, under whom the team has been performing considerably well.
