Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson recently sat down with former President Donald Trump at Mar-A-Lago to discuss his views on foreign policy and more, calling Trump ‘moderate, sensible, and wise’ in the interview.
This marks Trump’s first interview since his arraignment last week, during which the Fox News host failed to bring up his controversial private messages that were the subject of a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox by Dominion Voting System in March.
In his messages, Carlson had allegedly referred to Trump as someone he ‘hates passionately’, though this sentiment was nowhere to be seen during the Mar-A-Lago interview, where Trump discussed his views on foreign policy, as well as his interactions with Russia, China, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan.
Trump also mentioned Dominion during the interview, claiming that ‘these fools’ of the current administration had left Afghanistan in a confusing manner.
The former president was visibly passionate about the issue of global politics, brushing off criticism of his foreign policy decisions. Fox News has since defended the interview and maintained that what Trump had to say was ‘moderate, sensible, and wise.’
The $1.6 billion lawsuit against Fox by Dominion has seen recent developments, with the unsealing of Carlson’s messages to his producer in March. Fox was quick to refute the claims and called the accusations ‘distortions and misinformation’ in a statement from its spokesperson.
Dominion began its case against Fox after Carlson and others spread election conspiracy theories to their large viewership, and the voting machine company argues that these have damaged its reputation.
Fox is countering the allegations and the case is set to go to trial in Wilmington, Delaware in the near future.
